The original barn here at CF was originally built in 1858 by a Dr. James Barron Potter. When the farm was
purchased in 2001 and Capricorn Farm was established, the original barn was run down and in shambles. The barn has been restored
to the best of our ability. Much of the stone that made up the old barn was used to rebuild it. In the
process of rebuilding the barn, one stone was discovered with "DR POTTER" engraved on the side of it, as well as
the discovery of a time capsule which we assume was left by Dr. Potter himself. Some old stone foundation is still
visible in a couple pastures, not to mention various objects turning up here and there, such as the rings to a wooden barrel, an old key,
and other miscellaneous objects.
The barn today consists of 16 stalls, as well as outdoor stalls for the summertime. Our boarders have access
to trails, local shows, and state parks. Boarders also have the use of our round pen and arena, which contains cones, jumps, barrels and
poles, and even a mailbox and bridge to practice for trail classes. The horses are fed quality hay (square bales) and grain and watered twice daily, and given
any supplements that you may supply. During the winter, the horses are brought into the big barn for the night. Stalls are mucked daily as well as
the front pastures and outside stalls. Boarders are also given a tack trunk and room in the tack room for their stuff. The tack
room contains a large table, refrigerator, and TV, and is often decorated for the Halloween and Christmas seasons. Your horse and even you
will enjoy being here with us at Capricorn Farm.
